This weekend, forty-four students from Dana College, along with groups from Doane College and Hastings College returned home after spending the week in Slidell, Louisiana. During the past three weeks, we’ve sent 322 students, staff and parents on Campus Crusade Spring Break relief trips to the Gulf Coast.
On most of the groups at least 10-15% who went were pre-Chistian students. That rocks!
Our strategy was simple. Each student paid a $20 registration fee to cover their insurance, and each group provided their own transportation. Students slept on the floors of gutted out churches or in tents. We worked through local churches to help people in the community. An organization called Operation Blessing served food each day, and provided safely equipment and tools.
The lives of students investing their time away from school were impacted through serving, and building relationships through the shared experience of helping others. A total of 18,840 volunteer hours were given in the Gulf Coast by 471 Nebraska Campus Crusade for Christ students who went on relief trips in September, October, and March.
